Global Forum Basel
Council of Interntional Schools
The annual meeting of global schools and universities
From 13 to 15 November 2024, 800 participants from international schools and universities in 72 countries gathered at the Congress Centre Basel for the annual Global Forum on International Admission & Guidance, organised by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and VKOZ. This forum provided a platform for CIS members to exchange knowledge and experiences, gain new insights into international education and, above all, build valuable networks. Participants were actively involved in the programme, as many of them gave a session themselves.

Our total approach: A varied program and involvement
First-time members were given a special ‘first timers’ presentation, where they learned how to get the most out of the forum. The first day’s programme opened with a unique cultural experience: a yodelling group, complete with alphorn and flag thrower, bringing the Swiss atmosphere to the fore. VKOZ provided the total approach for the event, with us being responsible for the entire organisation, from planning to execution. This approach, combined with our great collaboration with CIS, makes the event complete.
This year’s keynote speaker, Laura Penn, spoke about her work in leadership and intercultural communication. This led to inspiring sessions. We organised 35 sessions in 7 different rooms, ranging from panel discussions and workshops to rapid rounds. In addition, there were three fairs for international schools and universities to present themselves, and no less than 30 volunteers helped us with, among other things, welcoming participants.
Did you know... that participants could find everything about the conference in the event app and communicate with each other?
Networks, connections and collaboration
One of the main goals was networking. On Thursday evening, a networking reception was organized in Das Volkschhaus, where participants were able to find each other. Participants often organize their own reception. This made it extra cozy in the city with lots of nice drinks to end the days!
Did you know that… we had quiet rooms? This way, participants could retreat to rest or pray. We organized a morning meditation and there was a lactation room.
At the closing reception, the event was concluded in a festive way. The International School of Basel has its own samba band that energetically provided a special closing. During the closing ceremony, 3 awards were also presented to CIS members in different areas: Excellence in Change and Innovation, Excellence in Counseling and Excellence in Higher Education Practices. Finally, the host country for next year was announced. We make this a festive moment every year with drum rolls. Next year the forum will take place in… Seville!

"This was the best CIS Forum in which I've ever participated, and the bar had already been set very high from my past experiences! Every workshop and networking opportunity was outstanding - I wish we could have spent a week there so that I could have attended them all."

Did you know that...
You can use different colored keycords, so you can recognize each other from a distance. For example, at this event we had green for international schools, blue for universities, orange for supporting members and white for the team.
